Easy Backpacking Meal Ideas

Backpacking, for us, is all about eliminating needless pack weight. Here are some of our favorite easy, light-weight backpacking meal ideas:

Breakfasts

  • Oatmeal
  • Cream of Wheat
  • Small cereal box (come in variety pack of about six) with dehydrated milk
  • Instant breakfast powder with dehydrated milk

Snacks & Lunches

  • Fruit: Oranges, Apples
  • Trail mix
  • Tuna fish salad kit
  • Beef jerky
  • Energy bars

Dinners

  • Dry tortellini with canned tomato paste

Drinks

(Measure out the correct amount for your water bottle, pour into a pleated plastic sandwich baggie, get the powder in one corner, and tie a knot in the bag. Simply tear the plastic baggie, and the powder perfectly pours into your water bottle.)

  • Gatorade
  • Lemonade
  • Iced tea
