Summer has officially landed. Well…I guess this post comes about 3 hours too early…but close enough! Celebrate the longest days of the year with a visit to Roosevelt Lakes in the Mount Evans Wilderness Area. If you live in Park County, JeffCo, or Denver, it’s a relatively short drive to hiking paradise.
Red Rock Canyon Open Space and adjacent Section 16 are the best of the best. There are numerous hiking options for all levels of hikers. You can’t beat the amazing views of the Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak. Red Rock Canyon also offers some superb climbing with a permit.

When Colorado’s snow is just too much for a solid backpacking trip, Hawaii’s Napali Coast is one perfect way to beat the cold. The strenuous Kalalau Trail can be a welcome reprieve from winter’s tight grasp.
This hike is less than one hour from Denver, and February is the perfect time of year for making the trek up to Chicago Lakes. Be prepared, however, for this exerting, 9-mile long winter adventure.
